We understand how exciting it is deciding to welcome a Bernese Mountain Dog into your family! However, unlike buying something online, bringing a Berner into your home is a bit more involved than just placing an order and waiting for it to arrive.
Breeding Bernese Mountain Dogs is a thoughtful, careful process, and it’s not about supply and demand. These dogs are bred with love and care, and since many breeders also have full-time jobs, litters don’t come around often. Patience is key, as it can take time for a responsible breeder to produce healthy, well-socialised puppies.
If it takes a little while to hear back from a breeder, don’t be discouraged—they often receive lots of inquiries and are busy caring for their dogs. Be patient, respectful, and understand that waiting for a well-bred Berner is worth it!
To make things easier for you, we’ve reached out to the NSW Registered Breeders to find out what information they need when considering potential homes for their puppies.
If you’d like to be considered for a puppy, we suggest reaching out to your nearest registered breeder with the following information:
1. Your contact details
2. Information about yourself, your family, and your lifestyle (A photo of your family is helpful)
3. Why you’d like a Bernese Mountain Dog
4. Your experience with the breed (if any)
5. Whether you have a preference for a male or female (or either)
6. If you’d be open to rehoming an older Berner
Go to the Dogzonline website for a list of current Bernese Mountain Dog Breeders in NSW & other states, along with their preferred contact details. www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/breeders/bernese-mountain-dog.asp?state=nsw
From our experience, these Breeders genuinely care about who adopts their puppies & they want to be confident that they are going to loving homes. We suggest getting involved in the Berner community, coming to a few Meet Ups & go to some Dog Shows (ones with Berners) to introduce yourself & ask questions about the Breed. If you have never had a Berner, dog sitting is a great way to understand the breed and see how a Berner might fit in with your family.
Registered Breeders in NSW follow strict guidelines and must only breed pedigree dogs listed on the Main Register of the DOGS AUSTRALIA Database. All puppies are registered, and new owners receive Certificates of Registration & Pedigree.
